Chambourcin Reserve
Is a bit of a mystery… wrapped in an enigma wrapped in a grape skin. It is a “hybrid” grape, which means it was made by parent vines from Europe as well as America, first planted commercially in 1963.
Possessing a thick skin and a full, aromatic bouquet, its is a grape that has the potential to make great wines, but all too often it is used to create lighter, insipid, and simple wines that belie the grape’s aristocracy.
Gino Razzi has created with this vintage a wine worthy of the grape. Deeply garnet colored, it has a bright, almost dazzling appearance and a bouquet that reveals aromas of pomegranate, black pepper, sage, and a hint of root spice (cinnamon).
To imagine this wine, think of an excellent “Cotes du Rhone” from a great producer, but with more fruit overtones and a hidden strength of structure as well as more elegance.
With lighter grilled foods, roast chicken with herbs, or turkey at Thanksgiving, this wine is a match made in heaven.
This wine is meant to be drunk now, but it will evolve with another 3-7 years in the bottle.
