Meet the Winemaker
Davide Creato is the Winemaker & Vineyard Manager at Penns Woods Winery. He was born & raised in Pietranico, a small town in the Abruzzo region of Italy. Davide grew up making wine with grapes grown at his family vineyards. From a young age, he had a passion for farming & winemaking which inspired him to formally study enology & viticulture at the University of Teramo in Italy.
In 2009, Davide began working in the vineyards of Cantina Zaccagnini in Bolognano working three harvest seasons before meeting fellow Abruzzo native & Penns Woods Winery proprietor Gino Razzi. Gino recognizing Davide’s talent, offered to personally mentor him back in Pennsylvania.
In 2012, Davide moved to the U.S. & begin working in the vineyard & winery at Penns Woods. Under Gino’s wing & with hard work, Davide flourished, eventually taking complete control over vineyard management & quickly moving from apprentice to assistant winemaker to head winemaker.
Davide has played a critical role in taking Penns Woods to the next level. His integration of sustainable agriculture, innovation & dedication to excellence has seamlessly blended with his old world roots, continuing to keep Penns Woods a leading winery in the region.
In his free time he enjoys making pasta, bread & cheese as well as curing meats. He loves tending his garden & chickens, hanging out with his dog Valentina & exploring the First State National Park trails behind the vineyard on his bike. He is a proud husband to Penns Woods

“My first experience working with wines & vines were with some Montepulciano d’Abruzzo & Trebbiano d’Abruzzo my father had planted back home in Italy. After my enology & viticulture university program, my first “professional” wine I made on my own was a Trebbiano d’Abruzzo 2010. I came to the states & starting working for Penns Woods Winery in 2012 & in 2013 Gino started delegating me with day to day decisions in the winery & in the vineyard with support from Italian wine consultant, Goffredo Agostini. Over the years I was fortunate to be mentored by many other incredible Italian winemakers that would pick up the phone every time I needed. It is with this help, along with Gino’s knowledge & experience in the wine industry as well as my hands-on work in the vineyard & winery that I got to where I am today. I am very grateful for all the people that helped me get to this point professionally & I feel very lucky that I was able to gain experience as well as craft quality wines each season.”

Members can always customize their order by adding to or swapping wines in order to receive an allocation that best fits their needs.
Members will receive an email notification of the wines that are to be included in their allocation 2 weeks prior to the billing date. Any changes to your allotment must be made beforehand. We do not allow customization or permit refunds after your order has been processed.
Our curated selections are designed primarily for those who enjoy dry wines. Availability of sweet and semi-sweet wines are not guaranteed year round due to limited production.
Our membership is free to join & you may opt out at any time after your first allocation.
Each allocation will vary in price depending on which wines are included, however, in general you can expect each level of membership to fall around the price below:
Keystone: $135 including shipping
Heritage: $215 including shipping
Founders: $450 including shipping
The billing date is on the 1st of each allocation month. Please note any changes to your allocation, membership level or status must be made prior to the billing date.
Penns Woods Direct Members will have their card on file charged on the first of of their allocation month with wines shipped within 7 business days of the billing date.

Flat-rate shipping applies to shipments of 3–12 bottles. Orders containing 1–2 bottles are shipped at standard carrier rates. The maximum quantity eligible for flat-rate shipping is 12 bottles per shipment.
Penns Woods Direct members are permitted to skip an allocation at any time. To skip, you must do so in your member portal 48 hours before the billing date.

A Traditional Estate, Premier Cru & Grand Cru wine club membership is a commitment to quarterly allotments of 3, 6 or 12 bottles of wine.
